The probability of developing multiple sclerosis following an episode of optic neuritis

One hundred and thirty cases of optic neuritis seen between 1953 and 1994 were prospectively studied. Seventy-nine (61%) developed definite multiple sclerosis. There were 19 cases of recurrent optic neuritis which, during the follow up, did not develop other signs of multiple sclerosis. Copyright 1999 Harcourt Publishers Ltd.
