Summary

Coralline hydroxyapatite implants unexpectedly induced bone marrow formation in rabbit eye sockets. This osseous metaplasia occurred without any added osteogenesis-inducing agents, suggesting intrinsic bone regeneration capabilities.

  • 10 New Zealand white rabbits underwent orbital evisceration and implantation with hydroxyapatite spheres.
  • Explanted hydroxyapatite spheres were retrieved after 20 weeks.
