Background:

  • Developmental verbal dyspraxia (DVD) is a motor speech disorder affecting speech sound production.
  • Understanding the developmental trajectory of language and motor skills in children with DVD is crucial for early intervention.
  • This study examines the co-development of language and neuromotor skills in a child diagnosed with DVD.

Observation:

  • A longitudinal case study followed a 5-year-old child (MV) with DVD over two years.
  • Initial assessment revealed unintelligible speech, balance/coordination delays, and rhythmic task impairments, with normal intellect and behavior.
  • MRI showed enlarged ventricles and a thin, incompletely myelinated corpus callosum.

Findings:

  • After two years, MV's language comprehension neared normal levels.
