Background:

Semantic priming, a cognitive phenomenon, is generally considered age-invariant.
The HAL (Halving And Linking) model provides a computational framework for understanding memory representations.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate how aging affects semantic representations within the HAL model.
To compare semantic priming and word neighborhood density between older and younger adults.

Collected text corpora from older and younger adult groups.
Generated global co-occurrence matrices for each corpus using the HAL model.
Analyzed semantic priming measures and word neighborhood density.

Semantic priming measures showed minimal differences between the age groups.
Semantic word neighborhoods were significantly denser in the corpus from older adults.
This indicates age-related alterations in the structure of semantic memory.

Denser semantic neighborhoods in older adults suggest a potential shift in word association patterns.
