Brazilian colorectal laparoscopic procedures involving 1,161 patients showed a 3.6% perioperative complication rate and a 12.7% postoperative complication rate. The study highlights outcomes of minimally invasive colorectal surgery in Brazil.

  • Postoperative complications were observed in 12.7% of cases (wound infections 5.2%). Mean time to liquid diet was 1.4 days, with a mean hospitalization of 6.4 days.

Conclusions:

  • Laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Brazil, during the study period, demonstrated acceptable complication rates and short hospitalization stays.
  • The findings support the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic approaches for various colorectal conditions, including cancer.
