Abstract:
Kept under medical surveillance in the oncogynecological subdivision of the Regional Oncological Dispensary of Vinnitsa in 1980-1997 were 58 female patients presenting with stage III carcinoma of the body of the womb (para-aortal lymph gland metastases). The patients were divided into the following age groups: those 36 to 41 years old--two female subjects (3%), those aged 41-46 years--3 (5%), those aged 46-50--3 (5%), aged 56-60 years--8 (14%), aged 61-65 years--11 (19%), aged 66-70 years--5 (9%) patients. All above patients revealed para-aortal lymph gland metastases. In the course of surgical intervention, lymph nodes along the aorta were found to be irremovable in 12 patients, with fatal termination having occurred 14 to 16 months following the operation. In 46 patients para-aortal nodes were excised, with survival being as follows: up to five years--29 (63%), up to ten years--17 (37%) patients. The findings secured suggest positive results of treatment of female subjects with stage III endometrial carcinoma carried out according to our methods, a convincing illustration of which fact is substantial prolongation of their lives.
