Summary

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) anomalies are increasingly recognized as a cause of idiopathic cardiomyopathy, alongside sarcomeric gene mutations. Screening identified several percent of cardiomyopathy patients with MELAS-type mtDNA mutations, suggesting their significant role.
