Summary

Strabismic amblyopia did not show statistically significant differences in nerve fiber layer thickness compared to sound eyes. Nerve Fiber Analyzer measurements from amblyopic eyes can be compared to normative databases.

Purpose of the Study:

  • Compare nerve fiber layer (NFL) thickness in amblyopic vs. sound eyes in strabismic amblyopia.
  • Evaluate the validity of using Nerve Fiber Analyzer (NFA) normative databases for amblyopic eyes.

  • Utilized a third-generation NFA (GDx scanning laser polarimeter) to measure NFL thickness.
  • Compared various NFL thickness parameters between amblyopic and sound eyes in 20 patients.
  • Excluded patients with nystagmus, neurological disease, or glaucoma.
