    Background:

    • Primary affective disorder is a complex mood disorder.
    • The roles of neurotransmitters like L-tryptophan and L-dopa in mood regulation are under investigation.
    • Existing hypotheses suggest imbalances in catecholamines or biogenic amines may underlie affective disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the clinical antidepressant efficacy of L-tryptophan, alone and combined with L-dopa.
    • To test the involvement of catecholamine and biogenic amine pathways in primary affective disorder.

    Main Methods:

    • A clinical trial involving 12 patients diagnosed with primary affective disorder.
    • Administration of L-tryptophan and L-dopa, both individually and in combination.
