Summary

Electrovesicograms (EVG) are typically normal in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Abnormal EVG results in SUI patients indicate an associated underlying pathology, such as detrusor hyperreflexia.

Background:

  • Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition affecting women.
  • Electrovesicography (EVG) is a diagnostic tool used to assess bladder function.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the characteristics of electrovesicograms (EVG) in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI).
  • To determine if EVG can differentiate between SUI and other lower urinary tract dysfunctions.

Main Methods:

  • Electrovesicograms (EVG) were recorded in 20 women with SUI and 12 healthy controls using surface electrodes.
  • Pacesetter potentials (PPs) were analyzed for frequency and waveform characteristics.

  • Healthy women exhibited regular, triphasic PPs.
  • 16 out of 20 SUI patients had normal EVG findings.

  • Normal EVG is characteristic of SUI in the absence of other bladder pathologies.
  • Abnormal EVG findings in SUI patients suggest the presence of comorbid conditions like detrusor hyperreflexia.
