Abstract:
Atrial fibrillation is a major source of stroke. During the past decade, large trials demonstrated the efficacy of anticoagulation and, to a lesser extent, aspirin in primary and secondary prevention of stroke in high risk patients with atrial fibrillation. In this article we reviewed the results of these studies and we present the current guidelines for the antithrombotic treatment of atrial fibrillation.
