Summary

Human monocytes significantly reduce nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) to formazan, a process that can lead to cell death and impaired phagocytosis. This NBT reduction is stronger in monocytes than neutrophils, but doesn't always correlate with bactericidal activity.
