Background:

The cover test is crucial for diagnosing strabismus.
Visualizing the eye during the cover test is often challenging.
A +10 diopter lens may serve as an effective occluder for improved visualization.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of a +10 diopter lens as an occluder during the cover test.
To compare measurements of strabismus obtained using a +10 diopter lens versus a standard opaque occluder.

Main Methods:

Strabismus angles were measured in 65 patients with various forms of strabismus.
Measurements were taken using both a +10 diopter lens and an opaque occluder.
Findings from both occluder types were compared for agreement.

Main Results:

Excellent visualization of the dissociated eye was achieved through the +10 diopter lens in all patients.
Measurements using the +10 diopter lens agreed within 3 prism diopters of the opaque occluder in 64 out of 65 patients.
One patient showed a 5 prism diopter difference between the two occluders.

Conclusions:

A +10 diopter lens is a viable alternative to standard occluders for the cover test.
It offers clear visualization of the dissociated eye.
Measurements obtained are comparable to those using opaque occluders, aiding in strabismus assessment.
