Summary

Rhabdomyolysis, a severe condition in children, is likely underdiagnosed. Early treatment with fluids and sodium bicarbonate is recommended for all pediatric patients experiencing this disorder.

Observation:

  • Seven pediatric cases of rhabdomyolysis were analyzed.
  • Comprehensive investigations were performed on patients with endogenous rhabdomyolysis.
  • The underlying causes for endogenous rhabdomyolysis often remain undiagnosed.

Findings:

  • Despite severe and recurrent episodes, pediatric patients with rhabdomyolysis generally have a good prognosis.
  • The majority of underlying disorders in endogenous rhabdomyolysis cases remain undiagnosed.
  • Both endogenous and exogenous forms of rhabdomyolysis were observed.

Implications:

  • Paediatricians must be aware of this underdiagnosed condition.
  • Early intervention with fluids and sodium bicarbonate is recommended for all rhabdomyolysis cases.
  • Further research may be needed to identify underlying causes of endogenous rhabdomyolysis.
