Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Immunology
  • Obstetrics & Gynecology

Background:

  • Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare, ulcerative neutrophilic dermatosis.
  • Cesarean delivery is a surgical procedure that can be associated with various postoperative complications.

Observation:

  • A case of severe pyoderma gangrenosum developing after cesarean delivery is presented.
  • The ulceration extensively involved the entire lower abdomen prior to treatment initiation.

Findings:

  • High-dose prednisolone followed by low-dose cyclosporine A induced complete resolution of extensive skin lesions.
  • Systemic immunosuppressive therapy demonstrated significant efficacy in managing severe PG.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the critical need for early diagnosis of pyoderma gangrenosum in the postpartum period.
