Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Gynecology
  • Reproductive Medicine

Background:

  • Ureteral endometriosis is a rare condition where endometrial tissue implants on the ureter.
  • It can lead to urinary tract obstruction and potential kidney damage.

Observation:

  • A case of unilateral ureteral endometriosis is presented.
  • The patient underwent hormonal therapy, endourological management, and ultimately aggressive surgical treatment.

Findings:

  • Ureteral endometriosis can cause noncalculous renal obstruction.
  • Diagnosis is often delayed, leading to irreversible upper urinary tract damage.

Implications:

  • Consider ureteral endometriosis in premenopausal women with unexplained renal obstruction, especially those with a history of pelvic surgery or low parity.
