Background:

  • Proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the primary treatment for acid-related conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcer disease.
  • All PPIs (omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole) are substituted benzimidazoles inhibiting H+,K+-adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase), but possess distinct clinical pharmacology.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the clinical pharmacology of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs).
  • To review comparative studies of different PPI agents.
