The use of the vas deferens in inguinal herniorrhaphy

A new method of repair of inguinal herniae is described using the vas deferens as a suture material. It is especially suitable in very large and recurrent herniae. Nineteen cases have been operated on in this way with an average of 38 months' follow-up. In none has recurrence been noted. It is suggested that the vas deferens, so readily to hand, forms a more natural barrier than man-made fibres. It may also, in fact, remain biable though this had not, yet, been proved.
