We found gravity behaves in extra dimensions, with a special graviton mode localizing gravity on the brane at certain scales. This ensures four-dimensional gravity at intermediate distances before five-dimensional laws re-emerge.
Area of Science:
- Theoretical Physics
- String Theory
- Quantum Gravity
Background:
- Investigating gravity in theories with extra spatial dimensions.
- Exploring nonfactorizable background geometries in brane worlds.
Purpose of the Study:
- To understand the behavior of gravity in higher-dimensional spacetime.
- To analyze the quasilocalization of gravity on branes.
Main Methods:
- Analysis of metrics in nonfactorizable background geometries.
- Identification of resonant graviton modes at zero energy.
Main Results:
- A resonant graviton mode at zero energy is found for asymptotically flat metrics.
- Gravity is quasilocalized on the brane at intermediate scales, mimicking four-dimensional laws.
- Five-dimensional gravitational laws re-emerge at larger scales due to graviton resonance decay.
Conclusions:
- The study clarifies gravity's behavior in extra dimensions.
- Effective gravity theories are classified for various background geometries.

Measuring Acceleration Due to Gravity
A simple pendulum can be described as a point mass and a string. Meanwhile, a physical pendulum is any object whose oscillations are similar to a simple pendulum, but cannot be modeled as a point mass on a string because its mass is distributed over a larger area. The behavior of a physical pendulum can be modeled using the principles of...
