    Summary

    Systolic time intervals, including LVETc and PEP/LVET, showed significant changes in patients with acute coronary conditions. However, these noninvasive indices lacked individual discriminative value for early diagnosis of acute coronary insufficiency versus acute myocardial infarction.

    Background:

    • Early differentiation between acute coronary insufficiency and acute myocardial infarction is clinically important.
    • Noninvasive indices of left ventricular function are frequently employed for patient assessment.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of systolic time intervals and apexcardiogram a/E ratio in distinguishing acute coronary insufficiency from acute myocardial infarction.
    • To assess changes in these noninvasive indices during the early hospital stay.

    Main Methods:

    • Thirty-two patients admitted to a coronary-care unit were studied.
    • Systolic time intervals and apexcardiogram a/E ratio were measured on days 1, 2, and 7.
    • Statistical analysis was performed to identify significant changes and discriminative values.

    • Left ventricular ejection time corrected (LVETc) and pre-ejection period to left ventricular ejection time ratio (PEP/LVET) showed statistically significant changes.

    Conclusions:
