Summary

Water-pipe smoking shows less detrimental effects on pulmonary function compared to cigarette smoking. This study found higher lung function parameters in water-pipe smokers, suggesting the smoking technique may mitigate harm.

  • To compare these effects with cigarette smoking and non-smokers.

  • A study involving 397 males in Izmir, categorized into four groups: water-pipe smokers, dual users, cigarette smokers, and non-smokers.
  • Detailed smoking history and pulmonary function tests (including FEV1, FVC, FEF50, MMEF) were conducted.
