Background:

  • Intussusception is a common cause of acute abdominal pain in infants.
  • Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten ingestion.

Observation:

  • A 1-year-old girl presented with recurrent episodes of acute abdominal pain and small bowel intussusception.
  • Elevated IgA and IgG antigliadin antibodies and total villous atrophy were found on intestinal biopsy.

Findings:

  • The patient experienced complete resolution of abdominal pain and intussusception after initiating a gluten-free diet.
  • Ultrasound confirmed the absence of intussusception following dietary intervention.

Implications:

  • Celiac disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of recurrent intussusception in children.
