Background:

Maintaining a high quality of life (QOL) is a primary goal of rehabilitation for individuals with disabilities.
Individuals aging with disabilities often face challenges to their QOL due to changes in health and functioning.
Negative QOL can arise, particularly upon community reintegration.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the factors influencing both positive and negative dimensions of QOL in older adults with disabilities.
To identify key determinants of sustained QOL as individuals age with a disability.

Main Methods:

The study investigated QOL in a population aging with a disability.
Both positive and negative aspects of QOL were assessed.
Statistical analyses were performed to determine relationships between variables.

Main Results:

Maintaining community activities was significantly associated with higher QOL.
Current age and age at disability onset did not significantly impact negative QOL.
However, current age and age at disability onset were significantly related to positive QOL.

Conclusions:

Community participation is vital for sustaining a high QOL among aging individuals with disabilities.
Assistive technology is a key resource for enabling individuals aging with disabilities to maintain valued activities and experiences.
Interventions should focus on supporting community engagement and leveraging assistive technology to promote positive QOL.
