Summary

Laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) is a safe and feasible procedure for patients of all ages. This study shows a high success rate and low complication rate for LS.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate prospectively gathered perioperative patient data for laparoscopic splenectomy (LS).
  • To review lessons learned in the evolution of the LS procedure.

  • A prospective study was conducted at two university medical centers.
  • 203 patients underwent laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) between November 1993 and March 2000.
  • Preoperative evaluations were performed for all patients.
