Pancreatic cancer: current factors and options to determine future research
1Athens Medical Center, Apollonio Hospital, Greece.
Abstract:
There are many factors to consider when reviewing the fact that the prognosis for patients diagnosed with pancreatic carcinoma is "dismal." For this reason, we reviewed various articles regarding the diagnostic factors, treatment and prognostic factors including resection and laparoscopy, along with modalities of treatment to establish the objectives for future developments. We believe that as our population ages, we will see fundamental changes in the factors, options and modalities of treatment for this lethal disease. Public health efforts which are moving for the screening for early cancer detection, a better understanding of the tumor biology and efforts to reduce the gap between the clinical practice and the scientific understanding may ultimately reduce the burden of cancer in society.
