Diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB) is a rare sinopulmonary disease. Recognizing DPB in non-Asian countries is crucial for accurate diagnosis and different treatment compared to other obstructive lung diseases.

Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Pathology
  • Epidemiology

Background:

  • Diffuse panbronchiolitis (DPB) is a chronic sinopulmonary inflammatory disease.
  • DPB is highly prevalent in the Far East but rare in Western countries.

Observation:

  • This report details the first Turkish case of DPB.
  • Evaluated demographic and diagnostic features of 18 non-Asian DPB patients.

Findings:

  • DPB is a distinct clinicopathological entity.
  • DPB is characterized by chronic recurrent sinopulmonary infection and inflammation.

Implications:

  • Increased awareness of DPB in differential diagnoses of sinopulmonary diseases in non-Asian populations is needed.
  • Accurate diagnosis is vital as DPB management and prognosis differ from other obstructive pulmonary diseases.
