Area of Science:

  • Psychology
  • Clinical Psychology
  • Psychological Assessment

Background:

  • A 1991 survey by Archer et al. documented psychological test usage with adolescents.
  • The current study aimed to replicate and update these findings.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine current psychological test usage patterns with adolescents.
  • To compare current practices with 1991 survey results.
  • To explore the impact of managed care on test selection.

Main Methods:

  • A survey was distributed to 346 psychologists working with adolescents.
  • Respondents reported on their test usage in clinical and academic settings.
  • Data were analyzed to identify trends and compare with previous findings.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Widespread use of Wechsler Intelligence Scales, Rorschach, TAT, and MMPI persists.
  • A decrease in Bender-Gestalt usage was observed.
  • Increased utilization of parent and teacher rating scales was noted.

Conclusions:

  • Core psychological assessment tools for adolescents remain consistent.
  • Shifts in test preferences indicate evolving clinical practices.
  • Managed care may influence the selection of assessment instruments.
