Summary
Preventing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is possible. Using gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists with GnRH agonist ovulation triggering can eliminate severe OHSS in assisted reproduction.
Area of Science:
- Reproductive Endocrinology
- Assisted Reproductive Technology
Background:
- Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) prevention strategies are debated.
- Complete prevention of OHSS is often considered unattainable.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a novel strategy for preventing clinically significant OHSS.
- To highlight the potential of GnRH antagonists in OHSS prevention.
Main Methods:
- Utilizing GnRH antagonists for ovarian stimulation in assisted reproduction.
- Employing a single GnRH agonist administration for ovulation triggering.
Main Results:
- This combined approach effectively triggers ovulation.
- The strategy completely eliminates the risk of significant OHSS, particularly in high responders.
Conclusions:
- Combining GnRH antagonist stimulation with GnRH agonist triggering offers a complete OHSS prevention method.
- Severe OHSS could become a rare complication in assisted reproduction with this strategy.
