Area of Science:

  • Forensic Science
  • Population Genetics
  • Molecular Biology

Background:

  • Short tandem repeat (STR) loci are critical for human identification in forensic science.
  • Accurate population-specific allele frequency data are necessary for robust forensic analysis and interpretation.
  • The AmpFISTR SGM Plus kit is a widely used tool for forensic DNA profiling.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To establish allele frequency distributions for 10 STR loci in the Slovenian population.
  • To provide a foundational dataset for forensic DNA analysis in Slovenia.
  • To assess the forensic utility of the AmpFISTR SGM Plus kit within this specific population.

Main Methods:

  • Genotyping of 321 unrelated individuals from Slovenia using the AmpFISTR SGM Plus kit.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Analysis of allele frequencies for 10 specific STR loci.
  • Statistical evaluation of population genetics parameters.
  • Main Results:

    • Detailed allele frequencies for each of the 10 STR loci were calculated.
    • The data represent a comprehensive genetic profile of the Slovenian sample population.
    • Observed and expected heterozygosity values were determined for each locus.

    Conclusions:

    • The generated allele frequency data are valuable for forensic casework in Slovenia.
    • This study contributes essential population data for the AmpFISTR SGM Plus kit.
    • The findings support the reliable application of this STR kit for individual identification in the Slovenian population.
