Background:

  • Local immunosuppressive factors in the cervix are implicated in human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven malignant transformation.
  • Glycodelin-A is a known immunosuppressive peptide primarily found in the endometrium.
  • Its presence and role in the uterine cervix remain undefined.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression of glycodelin-A in the uterine cervix.
  • To determine if glycodelin-A is present in normal and neoplastic cervical tissues.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemistry was used to detect glycodelin-A.
  • Archival paraffin-embedded cervical sections from 14 women (10 hysterectomies, 4 cone biopsies) were analyzed.
  • Staining was scored for squamous and glandular epithelial components.

  • Glycodelin-A was detected in the squamous epithelium of 11 out of 14 (79%) cervical specimens.
