Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Surgical Pathology

Background:

  • Primary liposarcoma of the vulva is an exceptionally rare malignancy.
  • This report details a unique case of vulvar liposarcoma management.

Observation:

  • A 21-year-old woman presented with a 3-year history of a painless vulvar lump, initially diagnosed as a lipoma.
  • Surgical excision revealed a well-differentiated liposarcoma with incomplete stalk excision.

Findings:

  • Postoperative radiotherapy was administered due to uncertain prognosis.
  • At 18 months post-treatment, there was no evidence of local recurrence or metastasis.

Implications:

  • Postoperative radiotherapy may contribute to favorable outcomes in vulvar liposarcoma.
  • Long-term surveillance is crucial due to the potential for late recurrence or metastasis.
