    Summary

    Conjunctival excision effectively treated Mooren's ulcers in ten eyes. Eight ulcers healed within three weeks, with seven remaining healed after treatment for progressive eye conditions.

    Background:

    • Mooren's ulcer is a rare, progressive peripheral ulcerative keratitis.
    • It can lead to significant vision loss if not managed promptly.

    Observation:

    • Ten eyes diagnosed with progressing Mooren's or similar ulcers were selected for treatment.
    • A surgical technique involving the excision of a 3 to 4 mm ring of limbal conjunctiva adjacent to the ulcer was employed.

    Findings:

    • Eight out of ten treated eyes demonstrated healing within a three-week period.
    • Seven of these eyes achieved sustained healing post-procedure.
    • One eye experienced recurrent ulceration but healed upon re-treatment with conjunctival excision.

    Implications:

    • Conjunctival excision appears to be a viable and effective treatment for Mooren's ulcer.
    • This surgical approach offers a promising option for managing progressive ulcerative keratitis.
    • Further studies could explore long-term outcomes and compare this technique with other therapeutic modalities.
