Summary

Appendiceal mucocele, a rare condition, was diagnosed using imaging that mimicked an ovarian cyst. Surgical removal via appendectomy was successful and complication-free.

Background:

Mucocele of the appendix is an uncommon condition.
Preoperative diagnosis of appendiceal mucocele is rare.

Observation:

This case report details a patient whose clinical presentation and imaging findings on ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) were highly suggestive of an ovarian cyst.
The imaging characteristics presented a diagnostic challenge, necessitating careful radiological interpretation.

Findings:

Appendiceal mucocele was confirmed postoperatively following an appendectomy.
The surgical procedure was uncomplicated, indicating a favorable outcome.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of considering appendiceal mucocele in the differential diagnosis of adnexal masses, especially when imaging findings are atypical.
Accurate preoperative diagnosis can be aided by a comprehensive review of clinical and radiological data.
Appendectomy remains a safe and effective treatment for appendiceal mucocele.
