Summary

Domestication alters gerbil cochlear nucleus structure. Wild gerbils show larger dorsal cochlear nucleus and smaller anteroventral cochlear nucleus, while domesticated gerbils have larger neurons in the anteroventral cochlear nucleus.

Background:

Domestication profoundly impacts animal physiology and behavior.
The cochlear nucleus, the first auditory processing center, is crucial for auditory perception.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the effects of domestication on the structural subdivisions of the gerbil cochlear nucleus.
To compare cochlear nucleus volume, extent, and neuronal soma size between domesticated and wild gerbils.

Comparative volumetric and extent analysis of cochlear nucleus subdivisions in domesticated (Meriones unguiculatus) and wild gerbils.
Systematic analysis of neuronal soma size in the anteroventral cochlear nucleus.
