We investigated how correlated additive and multiplicative noises impact stochastic resonance. Our findings show that this simultaneous noise presence broadens stochastic resonance characteristics, controllable via phase shifts in modulation forces.
Area of Science:
- Nonlinear dynamics
- Stochastic processes
- Statistical physics
Background:
- Stochastic resonance (SR) is a phenomenon where a subthreshold signal can be amplified by adding noise.
- Understanding the effects of multiple noise sources is crucial for real-world applications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To analyze the impact of simultaneous correlated additive and multiplicative noises on stochastic resonance.
- To investigate the effect of time-periodic variation in noise correlation on SR characteristics.
Main Methods:
- Analysis of stochastic resonance in a system subjected to both additive and multiplicative correlated noises.
- Inclusion of time-periodic modulation of the correlation between noise sources.
- Characterization of SR using signal-to-noise ratio and spectral amplification.
Main Results:
- The simultaneous presence of correlated additive and multiplicative noises leads to a characteristic broadening of stochastic resonance.
- This broadening effect is controllable by adjusting the relative phase shift between the two types of modulation forces.
- Time-periodic variation of noise correlation further influences the SR behavior.
Conclusions:
- Correlated noise sources significantly alter stochastic resonance, leading to broadened resonance curves.
- The observed broadening offers a new mechanism for controlling and optimizing signal detection in noisy systems.
- This study provides insights into complex noise environments and their influence on nonlinear phenomena.

RLC Circuit as a Damped Oscillator
Consider a series RLC circuit. Here, the presence of resistance in the circuit leads to energy loss due to joule heating in the resistance. Therefore, the total electromagnetic energy in the circuit is no longer constant and decreases with time. Since the magnitude of charge, current, and potential difference continuously decreases, their oscillations are said to be damped. This is...
