Summary

A rare complication of Crohn's disease, liver abscesses, were successfully treated in a young woman using antibiotics and percutaneous drainage. This case highlights effective management for inflammatory bowel disease complications.

Background:

Observation:

  • A 20-year-old woman with active Crohn's disease presented with fever and elevated liver enzymes.
  • Past history included ileocecal resection and treatment for a retroperitoneal perforation.
  • Abdominal sonography revealed two large liver abscesses.

Findings:

  • The patient received antibiotic therapy.
  • Ultrasound-guided percutaneous drainage of both liver abscesses was performed using pigtail catheters.
  • This intervention led to rapid abscess size reduction and clinical improvement.
