Background:

External filtering procedures are common surgical treatments for glaucoma.
Some filtering surgeries fail to adequately control intraocular pressure or maintain functional blebs.
Identifying effective salvage treatments for failed filtering surgery is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of eccentric suction as a salvage treatment for failed external filtering surgery in glaucoma patients.
To determine if eccentric suction can improve intraocular pressure control and bleb morphology in eyes with failing filtration.

Main Methods:

Eccentric suction was applied to the surgical site in 47 eyes with previously unsuccessful filtering procedures.
Referrals were based on uncontrolled postoperative intraocular pressure or progressively flattening blebs.
Patients underwent an average of seven treatment sessions.

Main Results:

No discernible benefit was observed from eccentric suction in the treated eyes.
One-year postoperative assessment revealed no significant improvement in intraocular pressure control.
Bleb morphology and function did not show discernible improvement after eccentric suction treatment.

Conclusions:

Eccentric suction does not appear to be an effective salvage treatment for failed external filtering surgery.
Further research is needed to identify effective interventions for eyes with uncontrolled glaucoma after filtration surgery.
