Background:

The excitation-energy dependence of the graphite D mode has been a long-standing puzzle in Raman spectroscopy.
Previous attempts to explain this phenomenon have been unsuccessful or invalidated.

Purpose of the Study:

To elucidate the underlying mechanism responsible for the graphite D mode's excitation-energy dependence.
To resolve a persistent problem in the scientific literature concerning graphite's Raman spectra.
