[Effect of ethanol and inderal on the heart cycle]
Abstract:
Ingested ethanol at a dose of 1.0 g per 1 kg of body weight in an experiment on healthy young men changes in the 30th minute the duration of individual phases of the heart cycle. By the effct of ethanol in the dose mentioned and by administration of 20 mg of Inderal, the negative inotropic effect in the 60th minute and by increased index of preejection period as well as by decreased volues of the index of tension of the left ventricular heart muscle. Left ventricular ejection period is only slightly shortened by the influence of both ingested substances. Ethanol as well as Inderal prolong the interval of isovolumic relaxation, but at the some time they increase the percentual relation of the left ventricular presystolic filling "a" wave to the ejection relaxation wave V-O. By the influence of both substances the systolic and diastolic pressure is decreased more than by the influence of ethanol only.
