Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and describe a rat model for retroperitoneal minilaparoscopic nephrectomy.

  • Sixteen male Sprague-Dawley rats underwent a three-port bilateral retroperitoneal nephrectomy using 2 and 3-mm instruments.
  • The retroperitoneal space was created using balloon dilation and carbon dioxide (CO2) pneumoretroperitoneum.
  • Nephrectomy was performed by intracorporeal ligation of the renal pedicle, with subcapsular kidney mobilization to maintain peritoneal integrity.
