Certain dietary fibers that promote butyrate production in the colon may offer protection against colon cancer. This study found that resistant starch (RS) and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) led to fewer aberrant crypt foci in rats, suggesting a reduced susceptibility to colon cancer.
