Area of Science:

  • Immunology
  • Clinical Medicine

Background:

  • Antibodies are vital for infection defense.
  • Antibody deficiencies are common primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.
  • These deficiencies can be the sole issue or worsen other conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To emphasize the importance of evaluating antibody-mediated immunity.
  • To highlight the benefits of including immunizations in the evaluation.
  • To provide practical approaches for assessing patients with recurrent infections.

Main Methods:

  • Clinical presentation assessment.
  • Immunological evaluation, including immunizations.
  • Referral to a clinical immunologist when indicated.

Main Results:

  • Evaluating antibody-mediated immunity is crucial due to unpredictable clinical presentation.
  • Including immunizations in the evaluation can enhance patient immunity.
  • Collaboration between pediatricians and immunologists improves diagnosis and treatment.

Conclusions:

  • Physicians should evaluate antibody-mediated immunity in patients with recurrent infections.
  • Proactive immunological assessment aids in diagnosing antibody deficiency syndromes.
  • Effective management relies on accurate diagnosis and collaborative care.
