Abstract:
Of all grief experiences that a parent may experience, the loss of one's child is perhaps the most difficult and intense. Parents have hopes and aspirations for their children's future and when a child dies, those hopes and aspirations die too. Such a loss conflicts with life cycle expectations: a child is supposed to grow up, become a successful adult and raise a family. Parents do not expect to outlive their children.
