Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Neurosurgery

Background:

  • Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness.
  • Current treatments aim to lower intraocular pressure but may have limitations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of gamma knife radiosurgery in managing glaucoma.
  • To assess the impact of this treatment on ocular pain and intraocular pressure.

Main Methods:

  • Gamma knife radiosurgery was performed on 15 eyes across 14 patients.
  • Treatment duration was 14 months.

Main Results:

  • Complete alleviation of ocular pain was observed in all treated patients.
  • A significant decrease in intraocular pressure was noted post-treatment.

Related Experiment Videos

  • No immediate adverse side effects were reported.
  • Conclusions:

    • Gamma knife radiosurgery shows promise for glaucoma management.
    • Further investigation is required to establish optimal treatment protocols.
    • Long-term effects and underlying pathophysiological mechanisms warrant additional study.
