Review of aortoiliac aneurysms with spontaneous large vein fistula

Background:
Arteriovenous fistula is a rare complication of aortoiliac aneurysmal disease, accounting for less than 2% of clinical presentations.
Methods:
In addition to the 191 cases reviewed in the literature, an additional 14 cases seen at Royal Melbourne Hospital over the last 22 years are presented to illustrate the challenges in the diagnosis of this condition.
Conclusion:
An increase in awareness may lead to better management of these patients.
