Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare bone disorder. A 10-year-old boy with CRMO showed improvement after treatment with naproxen.

Area of Science:

  • Pediatric rheumatology
  • Osteomyelitis research
  • Inflammatory bone disease

Background:

  • Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare, autoinflammatory bone disorder of unknown cause.
  • CRMO presents with recurrent, multifocal bone lesions and a variable clinical course.
  • Diagnosis and management of CRMO can be challenging due to its rarity and varied presentation.

Observation:

  • A 10-year-old male patient presented with symptoms consistent with CRMO.
  • The patient exhibited multiple bone lesions characteristic of the disorder.
  • The clinical course of the patient's condition was monitored.

Findings:

  • The patient with chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis experienced significant improvement.
  • Treatment with naproxen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), was administered.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Naproxen demonstrated efficacy in managing the symptoms and bone lesions of CRMO in this case.
  • Implications:

    • This case suggests naproxen may be an effective treatment option for pediatric CRMO.
    • Further research into NSAID efficacy in CRMO is warranted.
    • Understanding treatment responses can improve clinical management of this rare bone disease.
