Local infiltration anesthesia is a safe and effective option for adult inguinal hernia repair in day-case surgery. This method offers advantages over spinal anesthesia, including reduced complications and faster recovery.

To evaluate and compare the safety and efficacy of local infiltration anesthesia versus spinal anesthesia for adult inguinal hernia repair in a day-case setting.

Data from 413 adult patients who underwent inguinal hernia repair under local anesthesia were compared with 121 patients who received spinal anesthesia.

Patients receiving spinal anesthesia experienced more frequent and severe cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological complications.
