Summary

Parental attitudes towards universal neonatal hearing screening using otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing are overwhelmingly positive. Parents value early detection and intervention, with minimal concerns about the screening process itself.

Background:

Universal neonatal hearing screening programs are crucial for early detection of hearing loss.
Otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing is a common method for neonatal hearing screening.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess parental attitudes and concerns regarding universal neonatal hearing screening using OAE testing.
To evaluate parental satisfaction with the information provided and the screening process.

Main Methods:

A questionnaire was administered to parents of 87 infants undergoing OAE screening.
Data was collected during routine well-baby clinic check-ups when infants were 5-6 months old.

Main Results:

95% of parents had a positive attitude towards neonatal hearing screening.
