Calcific myonecrosis: case report and review.

Background:

Calcific myonecrosis is an uncommon diagnosis characterized by calcium deposition within muscle tissue.
It typically occurs years after an initial traumatic injury, often presenting as a progressively enlarging mass.

Observation:

A previously healthy 66-year-old male presented with an expanding mass in his right lower extremity.
Initial diagnosis was an abscess, but the lesion continued to enlarge despite antibiotic treatment, causing pain and functional loss.

Findings:

The patient underwent extensive surgical debridement and free muscle flap transfer.
The procedure resulted in an excellent clinical outcome with resolution of the mass.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of considering calcific myonecrosis in the differential diagnosis of expanding muscle compartment masses.
