Urinary incontinence in women: assessment and management in the primary care setting

Urinary incontinence, the unwanted loss of urine, is a condition that affects millions of women and yet is often not addressed by the primary care provider. The unfortunate consequence of this ignorance is that, if correctly diagnosed and managed 80% of these patients could have marked improvement in clinical symptoms. The intent of this report is to familiarize the reader with a systematic approach to the assessment, diagnosis, and management strategies for urinary incontinence in the outpatient setting.
